Naughty Words and Soap

Never really contemplated washing the mouths of my children out with soap, but today I did it.
We were talking about finishing up some gifts for parties tomorrow, the children were telling me that they wanted presents too. Abigail didn't think that she could be heard over Alma, an then she said it. More like shouted it. "Alma. Shut up!"

I hate those two words. Hate them. Hate them. Hate them. I don't like it when the word hush is used (there is not a kind way to say them, so really I'd just rather not hear them at all) especially in my home.

What I dislike even more is that they came out of this little girls mouth.

{This picture was taken jut this morning}

So, Abigail said that phrase, and before I knew it, we were in the bathroom. I was grabbing the bar of soap as I explained that she had said a naughty, dirty word; and that now her mouth was dirty, so we needed to clean it with soap.

Side note- I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror on my way into the bathroom. It was hilarious. I have become that mom. The one who marches into the bathroom dragging her child behind her, to rub a bar of soap on their tongue.
It was hard not to laugh through the explanation of why we needed the soap while I had that image in my head, and was trying to figure out for myself why in the world do we put soap in our mouths other than for the reason that it tastes awful?

So now I'm trying to figure out where she heard it.
They just started watching 101 Dalmatians (which they call 'The Pongo Movie') this past month, and Cruella Devil uses that phrase along with 'idiot'. I've considered helping this video get lost in the back of the armoire, this may be the motivation I need.
When I asked her who had said that word (I was really hoping that she'd say the Mean Lady in The Pongo Movie), but she said an actual name. So now I need to wait for Tyler to get home, talk to him about who said it and what to do about it.

So I guess those two little words are where I draw my proverbial line in the sand.

I'm still holding out and hoping she just says that it was only the mean lady on the Pongo movie. It would make being a mom so much easier for me today.

Missy, I love how you retell the story. Good luck! Abi sure does look cute with that curled hair and pink dress and ribbon. I'm sure that makes pretending to be angry that much harder!
